Vanderbilt Cup Races

Mary Cummings presented this 24-minute presentation on Consuelo Vanderbilt for the Southampton History Museum.

This lecture was done live via Zoom on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 11am. The fifth lecture on women of the Gilded Age in Southampton focused on Consuelo Vanderbilt, who was born into great wealth and privilege but was a pawn in the hands of her obsessively socially ambitious mother. Forced into a loveless first marriage, she found happiness only much later with her second husband and finished her days in her lovely Southampton home, Gardenside.
