Tucker 1044 gets Brand New Tucker Seat Covers

One of the more rare accessories that you could pre-purchase for your new Tucker were color matching seat covers.

A set in green has been the most challenging for Preston Tucker Great-Grandsons, Mike and Sean Tucker to find, until now. A rare set recently unearthed by the Tucker Brothers have finally found their way into Tucker #1044 joining the original set of Tucker luggage accessories already in the car.

Greg O.

Pre-sale accessories were an innovative way for Preston Tucker to build a little more financial backing for the fledging Tucker Corporation in the early days when someone put their order in for a new Tucker. While similar practices are fairly common today, at the time in 1948, this was unheard of and one of the things that made the Securities and Exchange Commission question if Preston Tucker was scamming the American public.

Here on the Tucker accessory order form, we can see that the color-coded seat covers were $69.50 as part of any of the order groups.

Recently, Preston Tucker's Great-Grandsons Sean and Mike Tucker came across the very elusive, green-colored seat covers. Most other colors had been already found, but green proved to be the big challenge.

Once found, (in the original box!) they knew their only home was for their personal favorite, Tucker #1044.

It was questionable how the originally-folded, 75-year-old Rayon material would come out of the box, but lo and behold, the material survived in nearly perfect condition!

Interestingly, Preston Tucker cleverly had the front and rear seats designed identically so facilitate the swapping of the seats front to rear if the seats ever became too worn over time.

Despite that, the 4 covers are clearly marked as to which cushion they are applied to. Here tags are still in near mint condition with a little bit of rust on the 75-year-old staples.

The seats easily pop out to stretch the Rayon covers over the original material and tie to the seat springs behind.

The fitment is obviously perfect!

A huge THANK YOU and KUDOS to Sean and Mike Tucker for continually striving to make #1044 not only the most accurate and awarded Tucker in existence, but also now the most accessorized Tucker ever!

In my last comment, I don’t know why there are question marks there,
