Vanderbilia: The Entry Form for the 1936 Vanderbilt Cup Race

A very unusual piece of Vanderbilia is the official entry form for the 1936 Vanderbilt Cup Race. This piece was originally in the collection of the prominent artist and "Old 16" owner Peter Helck. Remember to click on the images to enlarge them.

The cover of the entry form indicated that the race was planned to be 400 miles (100 laps). However, due to the lower than expected speeds during early practice runs, the race was reduced to 300 miles..

The first-place money was $20,000 with a total purse of $50,000.

The entry form included a schematic of the proposed course.

Compare the schematic with this 1936 Drennan Collection aerial of the completed course
