A New 1946 View of the Broad Hollow Motor Parkway/Trolley Bridge in Melville
A former Motor Parkway explorer Pat Masterson (now residing in Florida) has forward a new view of the bridge over Broad Hollow Road and Cross Island Trolley courtesy of the Dave Keller Archive.

Close-Ups
The view is looking north and photographed on March 10, 1946. The bridge went over Broad Hollow Road on the left and the Cross Island Trolley track on the right. Courtesy of the Dave Keller Archive.
After only eight years of being abandoned, the bridge signage was almost gone.
This photo and the above photo were both purchased as glass negatives on Ebay by Dave Keller. This view had also been previously forward by my favorite co-author Al Velocci.
The copy reads in part: MOTOR PARKWAY ENTRANCE.....NEW YORK......LAKE RONKONKOMA
Pat Masterson, Al Velocci and Sam Berliner III exploring the Motor Parkway in 2006.
Comments
Rare photos of the Motor Parkway’s Broad Hollow bridge! Thank you Pat for sharing these gems.
What a wonderful picture
A nice clear view of the former trolley row.The track rails must have been removed for other steel use being that their not noticeable in the 1935 image below. Thinking that the bridge signage seen in 1946 is original, notice the MOTOR PARKWAY ENTRANCE sign in 1935 below. Must have been painted over the original, then scraped off enough post 1938.
It seems to me that there are older pix of this bridge around in which the trolley wire supports are clearly visible. Sam, III
